A JOURNEY IN THE HEART OF MONTALCINO: DISCOVERING AN EXCLUSIVE SELECTION AND A CHARMING RESORT
LORENZO DEL GIUDICE | ROME, APRIL 20 2025
A single vineyard, a single vat, a single identity – this is how Brunello P#327 from Campogiovanni was born, the new jewel of the Montalcino estate, which, thanks to the intuition of winemaker Leonardo Bellaccini, goes beyond the concept of cru to express the most authentic soul of this extraordinary territory.
The search for excellence in the vineyard
“We went to look for the excellent row, the most ‘delicacy’ part of the vineyard. This is what we did with this new wine,” says with enthusiasm the Tuscan winemaker with over 40 harvests behind him at San Felice, in Chianti Classico. A powerful metaphor to describe the meticulous search that led to the birth of Brunello P#327: a wine that embodies the highest expression of a single plot of land from the Campogiovanni estate, owned by the Allianz Group.

The estate extends over the south-western slope of Montalcino, one of the most renowned areas for Brunello production. Acquired in the ’80s by Enzo Morganti’s intuition, the estate has undergone constant evolution, reaching its current 25 hectares.
A mosaic of soils and microclimates
The estate’s unique location allows it to benefit from a unique terroir, characterized by three types of soil that give complexity and depth to the wines: calcareous-sulphurous, which gives power; clayey, which gives softness; and alluvial, which adds elegance. A perfect mosaic, where Sangiovese Grosso finds its maximum expression.
The winemaking takes place in the cellars of Montalcino, with fermentation in temperature-controlled vats and careful maceration to extract the best from the skins. Maturation, in full respect of the regulations, takes place in oak barrels for at least two years, followed by bottle aging to ensure the perfect balance between structure and finesse.

Beyond the concept of cru
This Brunello is the result of meticulous observation and careful selection of the grapes. “We identified a plot that, vinified separately, turned out to be superior to the average, with unique characteristics,” explains Bellaccini. From a six-hectare vineyard, usually dedicated to the production of the annual Brunello, three micro-zones with evident differences due to the composition of the soil were isolated: more clayey in some parts, more sandy in others. In a small section, called Vigna Alta, the perfect balance between these elements was found. The wine was given the name P#327, which refers to the cadastral number of the vineyard plot.

In the glass, elegance and power
Produced in a limited edition, around 6,500 bottles, this Brunello takes inspiration from the “lieu-dit” of Burgundy, where monks selected the best plots. The result is a deeply complex and long-lived wine, with a mineral, iron-like character, notes of red orange, and extraordinary freshness. The tannins are fragrant and finely sculpted, while the taste is an explosion of fruit. Blueberry, pepper, juniper, and a touch of leather follow. A combination of power and agility that promises to evolve magnificently over time.
“These are the projects that make my work still exciting after so many years,” concludes Bellaccini. And with a wine like this Brunello P#327, Campogiovanni once again establishes itself as a reference point in the Montalcino wine scene.
The perfect pairing
During the presentation, the wine was enhanced by a selection of dishes by Michelin-starred chef Angelo Troiani. Among the most surprising proposals was “La Ciliegia sul Piccione,” a dish with extraordinary gustatory intensity and versatility in pairing, which perfectly highlighted the structure of the wine. Special mention also goes to the famous bestseller of the Il Convivio Troiani restaurant, renowned worldwide for the authentic amatriciana.

Not just wine, but also a Resort of charm
Campogiovanni is also an expression of beauty and hospitality. In addition to visiting the winery, it is possible to stay at Borgo San Felice, the company’s elegant and refined resort nestled among the Chianti hills, where the wine experience blends with the pleasure of living well.
A perfectly restored medieval village in the heart of the vineyards, where hospitality becomes an integral part of the wine story. Visitors can walk through the alleys of the ancient village, once home to a school, a bakery, and an olive mill, immersing themselves in a story that continues to live through the charming views of the valley. One can enjoy the spa, the pool overlooking the vineyards, the flavors of Tuscan cuisine, and the understated luxury of a hospitality that is never intrusive.
For a more exclusive stay, the estate offers Villa Casanova and Villa Colonna, private residences with elegant rooms, welcoming living rooms, panoramic views, and private pools, all while enjoying the services of the Resort.
